About Cefor
The Nordic Association of Marine Insurers (Cefor) represents marine insurers in the Nordic countries.
The Nordic Association of Marine Insurers (Cefor) represents marine insurers across the Nordic countries, promoting members’ common interests in marine and offshore energy insurance and contributing to a sustainable ocean industry.
The association does not engage in independent economic activity, nor does it promote practices that could be detrimental to competition.
Cefor members provide a wide range of marine insurance services, including Hull and Machinery (ocean and coastal), Protection and Indemnity (P&I), Cargo, Legal Defence (FD&D), War Risks, Offshore Energy, and Builders’ Risks insurance.
Founded on 15 August 1911 as Sjøassurandørernes Centralforening (CEFOR – the Central Union of Marine Underwriters) by Norwegian and foreign insurance companies, the association adopted its current name on 5 March 2009 to reflect its pan-Nordic membership.
To mark its centennial in 2011, Cefor published a book chronicling the development of shipping, marine insurance, and the association over the past 100 years, shaping Cefor into the Nordic association it is today. A free copy can be requested by email at cefor@cefor.no.
