Sweden increases limit of liability to passengers

As of 2 September 2015, Swedish national law will provide a higher limit of liability in respect of claims arising form the loss of life or personal injury to passengers of a ship, namely 250,000 Units of Account.

The new law makes use of an option in article 15(3bis) of the 1976 Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims as amended by the 1996 Protocol to regulate, by specific provisions of national law, the system of limitation of liability to be applied to passengers.
